Washington County Fair traffic & parking guide

Rhode Island’s largest agricultural fair draws regional traffic to rural Richmond roads. Check I-95 and Route 138 before the final approach to the fairgrounds.

Where delays build

Long-distance arrivals typically use I-95 and Route 138 before transitioning to two-lane local roads near the fairgrounds. The highway can look fine while the last approach slows around opening time, headline events and evening departures.

Camera coverage is strongest on I-95 and the numbered-route approaches rather than at the fair gate. Use it to catch upstream incidents early and preserve extra time for the unmonitored final miles.

Rural-road rule: once you leave the highway, follow event signs and traffic staff. A navigation-app shortcut may lead to a narrow local road or an entrance not being used for public traffic.

Arrival plan

  1. Check I-95 and Route 138 before leaving.
  2. Allow a separate buffer for the last local-road segment and parking direction.
  3. Save your parking location; large grass lots look different after dark.
  4. Before departure, reopen the regional map and avoid joining an incident upstream.

Schedules, parking arrangements and weather-dependent activities can change. Confirm the current day’s information with the fair organizer before traveling.
