The two-part traffic problem
The first potential delay is getting onto Aquidneck Island, usually by Route 138. The second is crossing Newport to Harrison Avenue and Fort Adams, where local streets and finite parking concentrate thousands of arrivals. Summer beach traffic can add pressure well beyond the festival grounds.
Parking, ferry and bike options
The festival recommends advance on-site parking because space is limited; 2026 on-site sales are cashless. Water shuttles serve Fort Adams from downtown Newport and Jamestown, while the Providence–Newport ferry reaches downtown for a transfer. Bike and designated rideshare access are also available.
Ferry lines, weather interruptions and sold-out parking can change the equation. Review the official travel guidance on the day you go.

Departure strategy
The most concentrated road demand comes when a large share of the audience leaves together. Before walking to the car or rideshare zone, check the city map again. If ferries are running, compare the queue there with the road exit rather than defaulting to the car.
