Citizens Pell Bridge Run traffic & parking guide

The only annual pedestrian crossing of the Pell Bridge changes the normal Sunday-morning pattern between Jamestown and Newport. Check the Route 138 corridor before traveling and do not count on finding summer parking downtown.

The date moved from October

For 2026, the run moved to Sunday, August 30 because of fall maintenance and improvements on the Pell Bridge. The race starts in Jamestown at 7 a.m. and finishes in downtown Newport.

Ignore calendars that still show October 18. The organizer’s current event page confirms August 30, 2026. Bridge traffic controls may affect the corridor early that morning; follow RITBA signs and police direction.

Participant parking and shuttles

The organizer says there is no parking at the Jamestown start. Participants must use assigned race shuttles from the Newport Bus Depot or arrange a drop-off before East Shore Road closes at 7 a.m. Because this year’s race falls in peak summer, the organizer also warns that Newport parking is extremely limited and not guaranteed.

  1. Pick up the bib before race morning when possible.
  2. Allow time to park legally and walk to the Newport Bus Depot.
  3. Use the assigned shuttle wave; do not drive to the Jamestown start expecting a space.
  4. Check official notices again during event week for traffic-control details.
